The long-term goal of CAAN is to change the cultural status of alcohol in Australia and to reduce the social pressure to drink excessively. Australians have already demonstrated that they can alter fundamental attitudes towards drug use by changing their attitudes towards tobacco use and drink-driving. CAAN endeavours to change the way our society behaves around alcohol to reduce the prevalence of alcohol-related accidents, illnesses and diseases.
More specifically, our campaign objectives include:
- To monitor alcohol advertising, marketing and promotion, and alcohol products
- To challenge advertisements, promotions and products that are excessive, aggressive and/or inappropriate
- To lobby policy-makers in government and non-government sectors
- To encourage people to serve and drink alcohol within safe limits
- To challenge instances of unsafe and/or excessive alcohol use
- To assist community efforts, by providing the community with practical tools to respond to alcohol-related issues
-
To facilitate communication and debate around alcohol issues by hosting
forums and meetings and disseminating research findings
