CAAN Network of Community Supporters:

CAAN invites all members of the community with an interest in alcohol issues to join the CAAN network. All members of the network are registered on the CAAN database and receive regular bulletins with updates on CAAN activities, upcoming events and the latest research findings.

If you would like to join the CAAN network, please e-mail your contact details to CAAN@adf.org.au or contact the CAAN Secretariat on (03) 9278 8124

Monitoring Alcohol Advertising:

CAAN keeps a record of alcohol advertisements and promotions that feature in magazines, on radio and TV, on billboards, on bus stops and tram shelters and on buses and trams.

You will soon be able to view these advertisements on our online advertising gallery.

Responding to Inappropriate Advertising:

CAAN has contacted alcohol industry representatives and the Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB) to register complaints about alcohol advertisements and will continue to do so if/when necessary.

Responding to Irresponsible Promotions:

CAAN and its members monitor companies for irresponsible alcohol promotions. CAAN actively contacts companies which breach community standards and some licensing laws and asks the companies to change or alter their promotions. CAAN will continue to take action against these kind of promotions and encourages the community to do the same.

Responding to Inappropriate Products:

CAAN has publicly objected to a range of neo-alcohol products – everyday grocery items infused with alcohol or alcohol flavouring – on the grounds that they normalise alcohol use and introduce children to the taste of alcohol and brands before they are ready.

Examples of such products include the following: Arnott's Tia Maria Tim Tam and Kahlua Slice biscuits and Streets' Illicit Vodka Cranberry Magnum.

Complaints System:

CAAN has established a complaints system, enabling members of the public to register complaints about inappropriate alcohol advertisements, promotions, products and instances of unsafe or excessive alcohol use in the community. Complaints can be made by phone, e-mail or in writing:

Phone: (03) 9278 8162
E-mail: CAAN@adf.org.au or fill out an our online complaints form
