Register a complaint about inappropriate alcohol advertising

Keep your eyes open for inappropriate alcohol advertisements. Alcohol advertisements are governed by the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code (ABAC).

If you are concerned about the content of an alcohol advertisement and think it violates this code, register a complaint.  Boag's Ad 2004

You can also make a complaint to the Advertising Standards Bureau. The Advertising Standards Bureau has an online complaints form on their website. Go to: http://www.advertisingstandardsbureau.com.au/how_to_complain.html

If you are concerned about the timing of an alcohol advertisement on television, contact the relevant television station within 30 days of the broadcast.

To make a complaint about the timing or frequency of an alcohol advertisement aired on radio, the Australian Broadcasting Authority recommends that you contact the station directly.

The Australian Broadcasting Authority website features an online complaints form that you can fill out and then send to the relevant radio station: http://www.aba.gov.au/radio/complaints/complaint_form.rtf

To complain about the placement of advertisement on outdoor furniture (i.e. bus shelters, tram stops, billboards etc.), contact the contractor that manages that particular bus stop or tram stop. For example, if you see an alcohol advertisement outside a primary school and feel that this is inappropriate, register a complaint. You can usually find the contractor's name on the actual advertisement.
